There are situations in which it's very important and ideal to capture your desktop and save it as an image file. For example, you want to show an error message displayed by a certain application to its developer, in order for him to fix it. Or you want to save the text displayed inside a certain program message for reading it later on. In these situations, it may be really difficult for you to capture the desktop and save it as an image file, when using the Windows operating system alone.

That's because the PrintScreen feature that comes with Windows doesn't directly save a screenshot as an image file, requiring you to paste the image into Microsoft Paint and after that save it as a graphical file. In case you only want to capture a certain area of your desktop, things become even more complicated. But when installing the SnapIt application, everything becomes clear.

That's because SnapIt allows you to capture certain areas of your desktop and save them as image files, without having to use MS Paint. Being able to directly save a captured area of the screen as an image file can help you save time and effort. After installing and launching the application, an icon will be placed into the system tray. By right clicking on the icon, the user will be able to access the configuration area of SnapIt.

Here, one will be able to set up a hot key for capturing the desktop and also configure the application to automatically save the screenshot in a custom location on the hard disk. The file format can also be customized, by choosing one of the many graphical formats available. After configuring the program settings, the user will only need to press the hot key in order to capture the desktop. At this point, one will be able to choose the desktop area that should be saved as a screenshot. The image can be saved automatically or manually, by accessing the "Save as" option and manually entering the file name.

Pros

It allows you to automatically save parts of your desktop as image files. Besides that, it offers support for a wide range of graphical formats. Furthermore, the hot key for capturing the desktop can be chosen.

Cons

Not having an actual interface may be overwhelming for some users. SnapIt allows you to capture any area of your desktop and save it as an image file, in the shortest time possible.
